Montreal artists playing in the NYC infringement

New York City's innaugural infringement Fest kicks off Thursday and runs 'till Sunday, and three Montreal shows will be along for the ride...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CAR STORIES drama is coming to NYC!!!

Canada’s most controversial experimental theatre project, CAR STORIES, is driving across the border for a performance in New York City as part of the inaugural NYC infringement Festival.

As the only show ever to be kicked out of a “Fringe Festival”, it has been described as “infamous” (Amy Barratt, MIRROR), “a lot of fun, interactive and exciting” (J. Kelly Nestruck, National Post), “Montreal's longest running experiment in drama as a culture-jamming street disturbance” (Matt Radz, Montreal Gazette), and as “more fringe than Fringe” (Raina Delisle, Ottawa Citizen).

For an audience of only three at a time, spectators are taken on a theatrical joyride, embarking on a surreal dramatic journey through the streets, alleys and parked cars of New York’s Urban Wonderland. The show runs:

Saturday, September 3rd between 7:30pm and 10:30pm
Sunday, September 4th between 2pm and 5pm and between 8pm and 10pm

A new show starts every 30 minutes. To reserve a spot e-mail optativelabs@yahoo.ca or, during show times, go to Kenny’s Castaways (157 Bleecker St.) and look or ask for someone wearing colored sunglasses. CAR STORIES is pay-what-you-can at the end of the show.

CAR STORIES has been running since 2001, and it has been featured through various media outlets. Print articles and video samples can be found online.

Der Kosmonaut: The Fall of New York

The Fall of New York analyses the social, political and cultural crisis of New York in the 1990's under the regime of Rudy Giuliani.

Der Kosmonaut takes the story and condenses his epic manuscript into a 30 minute poem with his mix of underground electronic music music along with images of a bygone New York. The Fall of New York also collects and mixes post 9/11 poetry and his collection of politically and socially critical repertoire over the past decade.

This show has already played in the second-annual Montreal infringement Festival.
